Placement tests are required to determine which classes you are qualified to take...

What is included in the placement tests?

  • The Accuplacer test is used to determine placement in writing and includes a reading comprehension and grammar test.
  • New students will also be required to take the Learning and Study Strategies Inventory (LASSI) for use in advising about learning strategies that will increase success in college.
  • Students use the ALEKS Placement, Preparation, and Learning (PPL) system to determine their math placement.

Does every student have to take a placement test?

No and some students may only need a writing or a math placement test.  For example, students who place into college-level writing on the SAT or ACT do not need to take the Accuplacer.  Transfer students who have completed college-level math do not need the ALEKS and transfer students who have completed college-level writing do not need to take the Accuplacer.  Seek advising from Student Services if you are unsure if you need either the Accuplacer or the ALEKS.
