Deborah teaches fine arts at Kodiak College She has developed various distance learning curricula to deliver top quality fine arts education to University of Alaska students living in remote Alaska villages without access to college campuses or even road systems. One of her greatest joys is introducing students to art and watching them tap into their own creativity.
She began her art studies at the Academy of Art College in San Francisco in 1979 and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from Northeastern State University of Oklahoma in Tahlequah. In 2015, she earned her Masters of Fine Arts degree from the Academy of Art University. Deborah’s art projects have been featured in many magazines, and she has authored 5 books with her painting projects. Deborah has pursued her career across the United States, moving with her active-duty Coast Guard husband and four children.
Deborah enjoys all aspects of art but devotes most of her effort to painting and drawing. She enjoys painting people and capturing their emotions on canvas. She also loves the beauty of still life painting, telling stories with just a few items captured in time and space. She describes herself primarily as a contemporary realist painter, but uses an eclectic selection of media in her art.
