Cheryl Wilga Kodiak College Graduate

Cheryl Wilga earned an AA in Biology from Kodiak College in 1990. Her favorite professors at Kodiak College were Dr. Gilbert Bane from Biological Sciences and Dr. Gary Stevens of the History and Humanities Department. 

After completing her studies at Kodiak College, Cheryl attended the University of South Florida and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree and later a Ph.D in Biological Sciences. Next, she was had a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of California, Irvine and, a second Postdoctoral Fellowship in Organismic and Evolutionary Biology at Harvard University.

Currently, Cheryl is the Associate Dean of Math, Natural Science and Social Science at the University of Alaska Anchorage and a Research Associate for the Museum of Comparative Zoology at Harvard University.

She encourages college students to get involved in research or experiential learning activities -- the more experiences you have, the better prepared you will be for future careers.
