February Community Education Workshops

Kodiak College is offering workshops for the community.

These are the February offerings:

Birds for Complete Beginners aka "What bird is that?"

If you enjoy spending time outside, consider taking up birding. It’s a four-season activity that will extend the amount of time you spend outdoors, but also can be done from the comfort of your home. It can give you the sense of being a treasure seeker as you try to spot birds you know should be around (and find others you may not expect).

Enhance your Birding with Mobile Apps

I can’t imagine leaving my smartphone at home when birding! As technology continues to advance, it has become an invaluable tool. There are birding apps for just about everything, including field guides, checklist apps, automatic recognition, and even apps that sync with eBird to help find local birds that you haven’t seen. But trying to find apps that work well and are functional for birding can be expensive. Over the years,  I have downloaded some losers and found some that I deleted almost immediately. In this session, I will share my preferred mobile apps and share some tips on how to use some of the free apps to really enhance your birding experiences.
