KoC Welcomes Interim Director Jackie Cason
Kodiak College is pleased to welcome Dr. Jackie Cason as interim director.
Dr. Cason brings more than two decades of experience at the University of Alaska Anchorage, where she has served as a faculty member, writer, mentor, and academic leader deeply committed to students, community, and public engagement.
Since joining UAA’s Department of English in 2000, Dr. Cason has focused her work on rhetoric and public writing, exploring how communication helps people engage thoughtfully with the issues shaping Alaska’s communities, including natural resource management and cultural diversity.
Beyond the classroom, she has served in a number of leadership roles across the university system, including chair of the Department of Writing, president of the Faculty Senate, and most recently chair of the Faculty Alliance. She has also served as principal investigator for the Statewide Symposium on Effectiveness in First-Year Writing and is widely respected for her support of faculty, students, and shared governance across the university community.
Dr. Cason’s leadership is shaped by collaboration, curiosity, and a deep appreciation for Alaska’s landscapes and close-knit communities. Since moving to Alaska in 1992, she has developed a strong connection to the state – something that continues to inform her teaching, writing, and leadership style. In 2025, she received the CAFE Community Builder Award in recognition of her commitment to faculty well-being and campus community-building efforts.
Outside of higher education, Dr. Cason enjoys spending time outdoors and exploring Alaska’s landscapes, something that makes Kodiak feel like a natural fit.
Kodiak College looks forward to welcoming Dr. Cason to campus and to the thoughtful, student-centered leadership she brings to the college community.
