Biography

Margie Mete has been a Registered Nurse since 1977 and a faculty member of the UAA School of Nursing since 2002 in the Associate Degree program at Kodiak College. She is currently facilitating the transition of Kodiak College to the Baccalaureate Nursing degree. Mete is currently completing a Ph.D. in Indigenous Studies at the University of Alaska Fairbanks focusing on the specialty areas of Indigenous Knowledge Systems and Indigenous Education/Pedagogy. Her research focus is "Exploring Indigenous Holistic Healing Practices: Identifying Connections with Nature and Spirit to Enable Providers to Meet the Healthcare Needs of Indigenous People." 

Mete is also employed by Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center (PKIMC) and works on a casual basis. Her previous nursing experience includes maternity, psych/mental health, emergency department, long term care, and community health & education. She is a member of the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA), American Holistic Nurses Association, Sigma Theta Tau (National Honor Society of Nurses) Theta Omicron Chapter, and Alaska Nurse Alert System. Mete was a UAA Technology Fellow in 2012 and is actively involved in supporting distance learning technologies.
